To DEBRIEF is to tell the story.

In retelling a series of events, a reflection occurs. From this reflection, the elements that work well and the elements that are not working well become clear. From this reflection, we shape what we would like to do next.

Pilots, soldiers, first responders, medical providers, and adventurers of all kinds have long ascribed to the value of debriefing.

Unload

At Debrief Therapy, we hold space for clients as they set down the load they have been carrying.

Here, clients are invited to tell their story in their own words. Here, we support the narrative clients would like to choose for their next steps.

Reflect

At Debrief, we build upon strengths and we do so by acknowledging the challenges met on the journey.

We don't skip over the hard parts, but instead, we pace healing to include framework and protective strategies so that clients are equipped for the road.

Process

At Debrief, we appreciate that each client has their own path.

Life is messy.

Add to: pain, trauma, loss, or disappointment can throw the journey off course. Your strength lies in the way you rebuild and recalibrate.

The flip side of Post Traumatic Stress is Post Traumatic Growth.

Thrive

Where others may see fractures, at Debrief we see opportunity to strengthen beyond where you started.

Life is the grand adventure!

At Debrief we will help you get back on the path towards your goals.

Specialties

Autism

One of the most common reasons clients seek Debrief Therapy is Jessica's approach to coaching and supporting parents with autistic or neurodiverse children.

Whether you are navigating a new diagnosis, learning how best to advocate for your child, or seeking to support your child in a new chapter of development, Jessica is here to normalize the unique challenges of parenting an autistic child. She will work with you as you prioritize your own wellness and identify systems and supports that will empower your family.

Therapy for parents of children with autism is best suited for those who are prepared to discuss the elements of their lives that are most impacted by neurodiversity, paired with a willingness to engage, learn, and adapt to new approaches that will serve their child and their entire family.

Aviators

When wings are pinned upon an aviator's chest, the skies become home.

Jessica's affection for aviation, paired with her time in uniform, have fostered an awareness of the requirements for military, commercial, and civilian aviators.

Aviators know that they must bring their best when they step, or metal gets bent and lives could be lost.

Because aviators live such rich lives, there are sometimes points of transition: grief, divorce, injury recovery, and milestones that warrant attention. Supporting aviators in a manner that protects their licensure is an integral component of service at Debrief Therapy.

Reach out if you would like to discuss therapeutic offerings specific to aviators.

Miscarriage

The road to growing a family is a deeply personal and highly impactful one.

Sometimes, along that journey, a mother may experience miscarriage. Science, history, and our intuition all remind us that women should not navigate life in solitude. Group and individual care is available for women following miscarriage.

Look for the latest group series in the "Tell the Bees" flyer. To schedule individually, reach out via my intro session scheduling link, here

Trauma

Trauma is a broad term that defines the brain and the body's appropriate and protective response to abnormal circumstances.

Trauma can be explored as a single event or a series of events. Clients who are seeking to understand how, or to what extent trauma has impacted their lives will be encouraged by Jessica's therapeutic approach. The process and the approach are curated to align with client goals at a tempo that is approachable for each client circumstance.

Veterans

Time in uniform is suffused with duty, honor, and privilege.

Character and attention to detail are required to uphold the highest level of excellence, in your service years. You have rested in the knowledge that your readiness equipped you for your mission, and your unit for success, whenever your nation called.

Thank you, United States Veteran, for your service.

Now that you are home, there may be aspects of uniformed life that don't serve you in the way they once did. Together, we can take a look at what is working and what is not working for you in this new chapter. Fulfillment, communication, career transition, survivor grief, calibrating emotions, and encouragement for navigating the VA system are all components that bring Veterans to Debrief. Just as before, you do not walk alone. Group and individual options are available.

We can get you squared away at the pace that you find comfortable. Reach out to schedule an interview call, here.

Women

Women bring light and life when they are empowered to do so, but there are times we all need to shake the dust off. On occasion, anxiety or depression may even offset a woman's journey.

Let's brighten your light and explore what you need to live life to the fullest!

Jessica's approach to therapy will kindly encourage you to lean into the areas where you would like to grow. Schedule an Intro Call here, to see if we would be a good match for your therapeutic needs.

Getting Started

How do I get started in therapy?

How can I join a group?

Consider:

  • Are my therapeutic needs listed as one of Jessica's specialties?
  • Do Jessica's fees and availability match what I am looking for?
  • Do I live in Ohio, where Jessica is licensed?
  • Am I ready to do the work that will produce results?

Therapy can sometimes serve as a bandage when things are really challenging. Bandages work, but they don’t solve underlying causation. Psychotherapy clients will experience the greatest benefit from services when clients are ready and willing to bring their focus and energy to work on their mental health goals.

Decide if you are most interested in individual sessions, group work, or both.

Then, schedule an Intro Call to kick off the conversation.

After your Intro Call I'll send you information to get you started in group or individual work, as you've selected. There may be a couple forms to fill out which will help us get started as soon as you are ready.

Meet Jessica

Jessica Schneider

Jessica Schneider, LSW, is a supportive and devoted psychotherapist with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Ohio University who specializes in service to individuals and families navigating neurodiversity, autism, trauma, aviation, military, veterans, and first responders. Jessica is an advocate for social justice across the community.

Jessica joined the Air Force after 9/11 and served as a C130 crew member on several deployments. Following her time in uniform, Jessica worked with veterans and first responders to build a nonprofit that supported vets and first responders in agriculture, merging her experience with her passion for environmental sustainability. After a season teaching Beginning Farmers, faculty, and students in the Cuyahoga Valley, Jessica gained a deeper appreciation for the value of mental health in strengthening both communities and agricultural resilience. She enjoyed serving those who supported her nation and her community as they pursued their next chapters. In order to strengthen her work, Jessica completed her master's in social work, and now pairs her experience and her education to serve her community.

Merging hard and soft sciences, Jessica researched the parallels that neuroscience has revealed between trauma and neurodiversity. Undeniably, she found, that when the mind and the body feel safe and seen, individuals are empowered to effectively strive towards their goals. When minds and bodies feel safe and seen, families thrive, and communities are enriched.

Presently, Jessica is working with Belinda Lauer, LISW-S, to provide authentic and relevant mental health resources to the Chagrin Valley. Jessica has published resources for mental health providers which are available via email. She also runs groups for miscarriage support, veterans, women in uniform, parents of neurodiverse kiddos, upon request. You can find her on Psychology Today, Therapy Search, and Instagram.

The privacy and the anonymity of her clients is one of Jessica's highest priorities.

Debrief Therapy is an out-of-network provider.

Jessica can provide you with a monthly superbill, which can then be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement for plans that provide out-of-network coverage. To confirm that you have out-of-network mental health coverage, call the number on the back of your insurance card, where you find "Member Services".

You may want to ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage and if it covers (either/both) in- person (code 90835) and virtual (code 90835-95) services. These codes cover sessions that last 45 - 52 minutes in duration.

You may also want to ask what your deductible is and if you have met it this year.

Next, you may wish to ask if you need a referral from an in-network provider to use your out-of-network benefits or what percentage of psychotherapy sessions are covered.

You may also want to ask how to submit claims for reimbursement and how long you can expect that reimbursement to take.

How About Private Pay?

For the highest level of confidentiality, or to meet your needs, private pay clients are also accepted at Debrief Therapy.

What Can I Expect In Our First Session?

The time is yours, so you will be in the driver's seat. Jessica will bring her experience, network, and education to help you navigate the bumps in the road. The Debrief approach to therapy can be described as dynamic, non-judgmental, and collaborative.

Jessica a licensed therapist who will support you in whatever manner you show up, on any given day. Some sessions we will do the heavy lifting that breaks down roadblocks. Other sessions we will laugh about the lessons learned or where the human experience tossed you on your tail.

I firmly believe that each of us has a trail to traverse. No one gets through life without a few bumps along the way, but the important thing is identifying who can help you when you need it. If you need to vent until there is enough air for you to take a deep breath, I am here for that. If you need to see things from a new angle, I am here for that. If you are seeking a greater understanding of why the load feels extra heavy, I am here for that.

A Night Out With Friends Or Psychotherapy?

What's the difference, right?! Sometimes there are incredible people around us who help us navigate life and that is positively awesome. How is psychotherapy different?

In psychotherapy, you are hiring a professional to help you assess the foundation of your challenge, apply copious theories and knowledge to navigate in a way that serves YOU.

A trained psychotherapist will then break down the steps to help you see the path ahead, at your pace. Your therapist is not here to be your best friend, they are more of a compass for your trek.

There is no ulterior motive, no underlying theme, and no need to pivot the conversation while in your session. This is your hour and your story. Jessica will help you find the words to tell your story how you lived it and aid you as you build forward.

Save the night with friends as an opportunity to celebrate your growth!

What Do Your Licensure Letters Mean?

There are a lot of letters that can follow a therapist's name and what they all mean can be a bit confusing. Let's break it down.

LSW

The LSW means that I attended graduate school (Forever Ohio) and in so doing, I studied the history and theories that are the foundation of social work and the mental health field. Additionally, I worked in mental health for the duration of my education, exploring nonprofit, agency, and private practice environments before I landed on this space, which provides what I believe to be the very best environment for my clients and my services. This portion of my schooling spanned nearly four years. The life experience that fueled my desire to pursue my masters degree was enriched by each opportunity to work in a new environment, each client session, each group session, each mentorship, each assessment, and each research endeavor.

Partnership and Mentorship

I'm working towards my "I" at this time (LISW), which will provide me with the opportunity to "hang a shingle", as they say, if I should so choose. As component of this portion of my career, I'll spend this chapter under the supervision of Belinda Lauer, LISW-S. Belinda has been serving clients of the Chagrin Valley for many years and her willingness to adapt to community needs, her foundation of knowledge, and her quest for new techniques to serve her clients are unmatched. It is an absolute privilege to professionally develop under her mentorship in this chapter.

ASDCS

Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist is a designation for providers who have completed extensive training on the many facets of life impacted by autism. This includes ongoing research regarding the latest that neuroscience has revealed. Additionally, this designation includes, approaches to improving quality of life, and techniques to build connections for families navigating autism. This specific certification, is in addition to extension studies from UCLA's Center for Autism Research and Treatment (CART), NASW's comprehensive coursework on Autism and ADHD, paired with independent study including the publications of Stephen M. Shore, and many more were components of a body of research over more than a decade of study and networking. This work, I bring to my community.

CCTP

Certified Clinical Trauma Professional is an endorsement that can serve as a green flag to those who have experienced trauma. This certification indicates that I have devoted significant time and energy to better understand how the mind and the body may store or process trauma as well as techniques to move the impact of trauma through the body and mind in a functional manner. My studies were enriched by NASW's "Quieting the Neurobiological Landscape", "The Neurobiology of Trauma", "An Epidemic of Trauma", "Incorporating Brain Science & Trauma-Focused Interventions" alongside the works of Gaskin, Frankl, Tedeschi, Mischke-Reeds, Dernoot Lipsky, Bako and Zana, King and Strang, Herman, and the inspiring Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D.
